Our Projects
The main objective of Rotary is service in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. They also support programmes for youth, provide educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, and other professionals, and vocational and career development. The Rotary motto is Service Above Self. While being guided by Rotary International's policies in general, clubs also develop their own projects that are relevant to the community they are located in. While some causes are served at a point in time, others go on to become a more long standing focus for a club.
The Rotary Club of Gisborne West has been involved with several community service projects over the years. Some of these are listed on the Who we are page on this website. The club's current key project is the Duck Race that aids the Life Education Trust in Gisborne.
